Lesson 8. Dynamically Creating Assets

Adding assets programmatically lets you build dynamic applications such as the memory game you'll build in this lesson.

Although you might be familiar with adding assets to the stage at authoring time, there are programmatic ways to add assets at runtime as well. Adding assets such as movie clips and text lets you build more dynamic applications. You can even draw programmatically, as you'll see in this lesson. Adding assets programmatically requires more code than adding them at authoring time. However, the benefits of adding assets programmatically are numerous and far-reaching. For example, by adding assets programmatically you can display images at random. By adding text programmatically you can assign labels to the random images. You can programmatically draw frames around the random images. With just this one simple example you can already see how much flexibility programmatic asset creation offers. In this lesson you'll learn more about this topic, and you'll build a sample application using what you've learned.
